Law 100 of 1993, and specifically Decree Law 1295 of 1994, laid the foundations for the restructuring of the General System of Occupational Risks.
This is how Compañía Suramericana de Seguros decided to participate in the Social Security sector, for which it initiated the studies and subsequent creation of its Occupational Risks Administrator ARL SURA.
From 1996 until today, ARL SURA has maintained its leadership among the private sector ARL’s in the country and to ensure the quality of its service has developed a quality system that has been recognized by ICONTEC with the Certificate of Quality Management under ISO 9001:2008 for the design and delivery of services in the Administration of Occupational Risks.
ARL SURA, aware of the importance of work in the prevention of risks to which the working population is exposed and with the aim of implementing management programmes focused on the continuous improvement of processes, decided to implement the Colombian technical standard NTC 18001, which is a best practice tool to ensure the optimal development of occupational health and safety within the company. Thus, in 2005, work began on this process and in December 2007, it received the certificate from ICONTEC in the occupational health and safety system (OHSAS 18001:2007).
