Ensuring health and safety at work and promoting an adequate occupational risk prevention policy are guiding principles for action by the public authorities set out in the Spanish Constitution. The fundamental rights involved in risk prevention, the right to life, physical integrity and health, determine that actions aimed at improving the health and safety of workers constitute a political objective of the first order.
The ORP International Foundation, aware of this importance and in accordance with the purpose and activities of the Foundation, coordinates different activities in order to promote the improvement of health and safety conditions at work, especially in small companies.
Among the activities, meetings have been held in different cities in Spain to exchange information on the most recent advances in trends, work methods and projects, techniques and tools for ergonomics, safety, hygiene, occupational medicine, psycho-sociology, training and prevention management, and the integration of these under the concept of corporate social responsibility. In order to extend the dissemination work, these conferences can be followed online. This allows those registered who are unable to travel to the cities where they will be held to extend their training in the different areas of prevention at a distance.
Likewise, the I International ORP Symposium has been organised in August in the city of Bogotá (Colombia) and the XV International Congress on Occupational Risk Prevention ORPconference2015 in the city of Santiago de Chile. Finally, 4 issues of the scientific-technical journal ORPjournal were published, recently indexed in Latindex and available in the Google scholar search engine.
Thus, public institutions have been involved, as well as the general directorates of labour, professional associations, companies, trade unions, prevention professionals and universities. These actions have served to raise awareness, learn about, participate in, inform, promote, project and improve the quality of prevention services, the occupational health of workers and companies.
Raising awareness and disseminating the culture of occupational risk prevention is a collective task. Sharing experiences, diagnosing problems, seeking solutions and exchanging information allows progress to be made towards this goal.
