THE DGUV JOINS THE INSTITUTIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ORP FOUNDATION

It is the general association of public and industrial accident insurance institutions in Germany and also a leading certification organization in Europe.

The Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung / German Social Accident Insurance, better known at sectoral and business level in Europe and the rest of the world as DGUV, is the association that brings together, in Germany, accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sector. It is responsible for assuming and managing the common interests of its members and promotes various actions in the interest of its associates and policyholders. In addition, it fulfills an important function as a social agent by acting as a representative of the legal institutions of accident insurance before political leaders, regional, national, European and international institutions. It also acts before the representative bodies of employers and workers.

“They are key roles in dialogue, understanding the reality of the company and work. The incorporation of the DGUV to the Institutional Advisory Committee of the ORP International Foundation is great news since it adds valuable experience of decades in the dialogue, debate and social agreement so necessary to achieve one of the objectives of our organization: a healthier society and fairer” said Pablo R. Nieto, executive vice president of FIORP.

Prevention, rehabilitation and compensation

The DGUV is committed to the Vision Zero initiative of the International Social Security Association (ISSA). And, as indicative figures that provide an image of its reach as an organization, it can be mentioned that in 2022 around 3.8 million companies and educational institutions were insured by it, including 3.2 million companies in the industrial sector and more than 144,000 educational institutions had accident insurance coverage for students.

The central tasks of compulsory accident insurance, the basis of the DGUV’s work, are: prevention, rehabilitation and compensation to prevent accidents at work, occupational diseases and work-related health risks by providing effective first aid.

The area of rehabilitation means restoring health and the ability to work through comprehensive medical care and professional and social integration into society. As far as compensation is concerned, this includes benefits for injuries or, where applicable, the collection of a pension.

Certification Association

The DGUV is also a leading European certification organization whose tests include: material verification, individual sample dimensions, tensile tests, fatigue tests and specific tests. The results are compared with the specifications included in the EN 1677 standard.
