UIC Barcelona began the academic year 97-98 teaching Law, Architecture, Public Management and Administration, Nursing, Humanities-Journalism, Dentistry and Business Administration and Management. A year later, Physiotherapy was already being taught and in the year 2000, the Teaching of Early Childhood and Primary Education classes began.
In 2002, Labour Sciences was added and two years later, the Degree in Criminology. That same year, the studies of Technical Engineering in Computer Management and Systems were recognised, thus increasing the technical offer of the University. The 2004-05 academic year saw the start of Audiovisual Communication classes.
Alongside the faculties, UIC Barcelona has grown over the years in terms of the number of centres and institutes. Among them, the Institute of Higher Family Studies (IESF) was born in 2004 with the impulse and support of the Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation. This would become the first Spanish institute of university rank whose main object of activity is family policies.
Likewise, the Centre for Advanced Social Studies (CESA) was created in 2004 to manage three degrees with a common teaching plan. It is mainly designed for working professionals from the public administration and security forces. The degrees offered are: Management and Public Administration and Criminology.
Since the 2008-2009 academic year, the University has been integrating the studies into the new European Higher Education Area (EHEA), transforming the Bachelor’s and Diploma degrees into Bachelor’s degrees. As a result, the old degrees will gradually disappear.
In addition, UIC Barcelona offers newly created degrees such as the Degree in Medicine (2008), the Degree in Humanities and Cultural Studies (2009), the Degree in Advertising and Public Relations (2009) and the Degree in Political Science and Public Management (2010), also managed by the CESA.
