The University of Porto (Universidade do Porto, in Portuguese) is a public higher education institution based in the city of Porto, founded on 22 March 1911 by decree of the Provisional Government of the Republic, but with origins dating back to the 18th century. The University of Porto is currently the largest Portuguese university in terms of number of students, faculties and courses. It is among the 300 best universities in the world, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
